a Stroke

Recognizing a Stroke: Remember The 1st Three Letters - S.T.R.

S - Ask the person to SMILE
T - Ask the person to TALK to speak a simple sentence
R - Ask the person to RAISE BOTH ARMS
------------------------------------------------
Note -
Another way to check for signs of stroke: ask the person to stick out his/her tongue. If the tongue is crooked or if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indicator of a stroke. If he or she has trouble with ANY of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
